This film is an interpretation of Medea, by Euripides, which I chose to set in the summer of 1970, at the Isle of Wight Festival in the UK, during the Hippie and Psychedelic movement. I interpreted the text through a feminist lens, emphasizing themes of male privilege and the subjugation of women’s bodies. Medea’s lack of agency around her childbirth, and her deep sense of betrayal by Jason and society, causes her to choose heart wrenching revenge. This is a story of feminine rage in which the patriarchy is the true evil.
